The Military Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) will pay for tuition, fees, books, some equipment, and also provides a monthly living stipend.  In return for the scholarship, recipients must serve a minimum of one year for each year the scholarship is received.

Military Health Professions Scholarship Program

The Military Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) is a service contract offered through several branches of the military that will pay for your tuition, a monthly living expense stipend and other fees in exchange for active duty service to your country.  Recipients must serve a minimum of one year for each year the scholarship is received.

Howard G. Lapsley Memorial Scholarship

 

Amount: Varies

Scholarships are awarded yearly by the Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center Board of Directors to provide financial aid to one or more needy candidates matriculating in a program for a career degree in the study of medicine or osteopathy.

A resident of Plainfield, New Jersey, Howard G. Lapsley was dedicated to improving the quality of life for all mankind. He was an inventor, electrical engineer, volunteer and member of the adjunct Medical Staff of Muhlenberg from 1957 to 1967. He is most noted for inventing multiple oxygenating devices for the fast care of mass disaster victims. As a memorial to her brother, Josephine Lapsley provided for the establishment of the Howard G. Lapsley Memorial Scholarship.

Selection Process

The program, administered by a committee, reviews applications and makes final selections. The scope of the scholarship is not limited to tuition, but may also include such fees as those for board, lodging, travel, meals, books and supplies required pursuant to the core curriculum.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must have been raised (attended or eligible to attend elementary or secondary school) in one of these communities: Union County Clark, Fanwood, Garwood, Plainfield, Scotch Plains, Westfield Somerset Count Bridgewater, Bound Brook, Green Brook, North Plainfield, Somerville Middlesex County Dunellen, Edison, Iselin, Metuchen, Middlesex, Piscataway, South Plainfield; temporary residence while attending college or medical school does not qualify for this purpose.
  • Candidates shall be eligible for degree in medicine from an accredited medical or osteopathic school. Matriculating students in the first through last year may apply.
  • Candidates shall demonstrate financial need
  • Candidates are required to provide the Board with the FAFSA financial statement
  • Candidates must complete and return the application and financial statement forms by May 1 of the year in which they wish to be considered for the scholarship assistance.

Karen J. Nichols, DO LEAD Scholar Award

 

The Karen J. Nichols, DO LEAD Scholar Award will be presented to an osteopathic medical student whose Leadership, Excellence, Achievement, and Dedication are proven in the classroom and community. 

This award supports, honors, and encourages Osteopathic medical students who show promise and exhibit the foundational leadership skills that will serve them and their communities now and in the future.

Effective leaders start as student leaders and as they continue to learn and grow, they too will make a difference and pay it forward.

Eligibility

  • Must be an OMS III or OMS IV enrolled at a COCA-Accredited College/School of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Applicant must also demonstrate the following:
    • Dedication to community and the Osteopathic profession
    • Demonstrated leadership and its impact within the classroom and the community
    • Noteworthy achievements, awards, and honors, special projects, and extracurricular activities
    • Excellence within multiple disciplines: personal, academic, and professional

William G. Anderson, DO, Scholarship

The William G. Anderson, DO, Scholarship recognizes an outstanding diverse osteopathic medical student who is committed to osteopathic principals and practice, has excelled academically, and has proven to be a leader in addressing the educational, societal, and health needs of minorities.

J.W. Darden Scholarship

The J.W. Darden Scholarship is a cash reward that is presented annually at the Darden Gala in January to outstanding student(s) enrolled in an advanced health degree (Medicine, Advance Practice Nursing, Pharmacy, or Physical Therapy). Criteria for the award are scholarship, activities, character, and the intention to meet the needs of the underserved in the East Alabama area.

Essex South District Medical Society Annual Scholarship

Philosophy

To assist in funding the medical education of a student from an Essex South city or town.

Qualifications

  • Residency in an Essex South community for at least 5 years prior to college, with a desire to return and practice in this area. These communities are: Beverly, Danvers, Essex, Gloucester, Hamilton, Ipswich, Lynn, Lynnfield, Manchester, Marblehead, Middleton, Nahant, Peabody, Rockport, Salem, Saugus, Swampscott, Topsfield and Wenham, Massachusetts.
  • Current curriculum vitae, which includes the permanent address, high school with date of graduation, and medical school with expected date of graduation.
  • A statement of academic standing from the medical school.
  • A letter of recommendation from a district society member, if possible.
  • A letter that includes a statement of personal goals.

Scholarships will be awarded at the Annual Meeting of the Essex South District Medical Society (usually in April).

Alfred A. Grilli, DO Scholarship

Created to honor a distinguished member of POMA who served in a number of key leadership roles, the scholarships are available to individuals who resided in Western Pennsylvania prior to entering an AOA approved College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Scholarship Qualifications

  • Must be a citizen of Pennsylvania and a member of POMA.
  • Must be enrolled as a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year osteopathic medical student or a resident at a Pennsylvania affiliated residency program with Osteopathic educators.

Requirements

  • A completed application.
  • An essay of approximately 500 words as to why you feel you are the best candidate for the scholarship you are applying for. This essay is extremely important.
  • A copy of your current curriculum vitae (CA).
  • Two letters of recommendation: One to two of which may be from a faculty member of your medical school, a letter from your Program Director is also acceptable.

Application cycle usually opens sometime in October or November each year.
