Speaker

Dr. Kilburn attended medical school at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina where he sat on the admissions committee.  This was followed by residency training in Radiation Oncology at Wake Forest in Winston Salem, SC.  He attended Davidson College where he majored outside of the sciences in French.  His interest in research predated his medical training spending 2 years in a basic science lab and continued with more focused oncology basic science research during medical school.  His focus shifted more towards clinical research during residency training before accepting a position with Gibbs Radiation Oncology in the Greenville/Spartanburg area.

He was asked to serve as a young investigator in the NCI's community oncology network, NCORP, beginning in fall 2014 and served as a Co-PI.  He now serves as one of three PI’s with Upstate Carolina NCORP which manages a 2.8 million dollar per year grant shared among St. Francis and AnMed's cancer programs.  He remains passionate about bringing clinical trials and the most advanced treatment to communities along with addressing community awareness and cancer disparities.  He regularly presents to the Us Too Prostate Cancer organization, Greenville Medical Society, St. Francis Community Outreach Programs, among others.    He sits on multiple national research base disease site committees and chairs the protocol review committee at Upstate NCORP.

He is a proud father of 11 and 12 year avid gymnasts and enjoys traveling in his family's RV and spending time on the lake together.  He has mentored many medical and premedical students with clinically directed research and hopes to see Gibbs Cancer center continue to grow regionally and nationally as a center of research excellence.

How do I participate?

By attending the poster session, participants will also learn about the biomedical, clinical and educational research activities at VCOM and its partner institutions will have an opportunity to identify new collaborative research opportunities.

Who should attend?
