The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) has received the 2020 Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.

The call to help others in need is one that many people hear, especially during a time of crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic that is currently sweeping through the world. One such person who is listening to this calling is Tiffany L. Carpenetti, PhD, an Assistant Professor for Anatomical Sciences at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM)-Virginia. With a severe shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE), Dr. Carpenetti was looking for ways to help fellow healthcare workers since they are on the frontlines every day during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) received two awards for its 2020 Annual Report: The Future of Primary Care in the Southeast, in the Annual Report Competition (ARC) International Awards program. For seven consecutive years, VCOM has received recognition in the ARC Awards program that celebrates world-class achievement in annual reports.

Each VCOM clinical education site chooses an outstanding third-year medical student who goes above and beyond their duties. Distinguished scholars are also selected; these students are recognized for their dedication in the classroom and to their studies.

Research into the effects of disinfectants conducted by Terry Hrubec, DVM, PhD, Professor for Anatomical Sciences for VCOM-Virginia, was featured as the cover story for the publication, Chemical & Engineering News.
