The discipline of Pharmacology at VCOM encompasses basic research leading to the identification of new ways to treat disease, understanding the use of drugs in the treatment of disease, the scientific basis of judicious prescribing practices, and toxicology.
VCOM faculty present medical students with the fundamental principles of pharmacology, providing them with a knowledge base to prescribe appropriate drug treatment for each patient. Students also learn to observe and monitor for adverse drug effects that could negatively impact the health of patients.
