Effects of Indole-3-Carbinol on LGR5 expression in adenocarcinoma of the colon.

Indole-3-Carbinol is a naturally occurring molecule found in abundance within cruciferous vegetables. LGR5 is a protein that is associated with advance stage colon cancers and is implicated in the regulation of cancer stem cells. This research will assess the effectiveness of Indole-3-Carbinol on inhibiting LGR5 expression in primary colon cancers. LGR3 expression is a potential promising target for therapeutic drug design.

• Potential promising target for which to direct future chemotherapeutic drug design.
• Assist in further identifying the cascade of malignant transformation of cancer stem cells in the colon.

A native of Alabama and 2009 Auburn University graduate, Brett is excited to serve as the primary care sports medicine fellow at VCOM-Auburn Campus. He is a Board Certified Family Physician. Dr. Sprouse completed his Family Medicine Residency at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, GA. He attended Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences where he graduated with a Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine degree in May, 2016. While in medical school, he also earned his Masters of Business Administration, with focus in Healthcare Leadership, at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO in May, 2015. During his time at KCUMB, he served as an Undergraduate OMM Fellow, where he taught medical students and assisted with research. His particular area of interest include team medicine, concussion management, and osteopathic manipulation. Outside of work, he spend time with his wife, Melissa, and enjoys traveling whenever possible.

Education

My areas of interest are in disorders of the pelvic floor and pelvic organ prolapse especially innovations in diagnosis and treatment and monitoring post-surgery. Also interested in any issues regarding disparities in care and outcomes in female patients. My interest is also in improving medical student education.
