The Julie W. Ghent Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by Julie’s loving family and Mid-Carolina AHEC. This scholarship honors the memory of Julie W. Ghent who worked as the Student Coordinator for VCOM-Carolinas host site Springs Memorial Hospital. Her presence supported, encouraged, and elevated those around her, and her positive attitude, compassion, empowerment, creativity, and magic created rich clinical experiences for faculty, preceptors, and students. The Julie W. Ghent Memorial Scholarship Fund recognizes outstanding osteopathic medical students who are committed to osteopathic principals and practice, have excelled academically, and have proven to be a leader in addressing the educational, societal, and health needs of a rural community.

The Dennis and Kay Cannon Scholarship was created by their son Dr. Matthew D. Cannon in loving memory of his mother and in honor of his father, who both exhibited a lifelong compassion and commitment to improving the quality of life for others. This scholarship will help enable the success of VCOM-Carolinas students with demonstrated financial need who plan to practice in medically underserved areas of South Carolina.

Metz, a 2022 graduate of VCOM-Carolinas, in recognition of an outstanding osteopathic medical student who uses his or her medical school education to recognize fallacies in either our current understanding of disease or clinical care and develop solutions to improve such issue. This needs-based scholarship recognizes a student who is determined and inspired by the lifelong commitment of making a tangible difference within our healthcare community, who has demonstrated commitment to developing solutions for the betterment of all individuals, who has excelled academically, and who works daily to encourage a more compassionate, unified future.
