The Margaret and Jimmi Narong Palmieri Rural Health Scholarship Fund was established by the friends and family of Margaret and Jimmi Palmieri for first, second, and third year VCOM-Virginia students whose career plans are to practice medicine in towns with populations under 15,000 in rural Virginia or Appalachia. The fund was originally established by James Palmieri, PhD, family, and friends in 2003 after his wife Margaret tragically lost her life while bicycling in a rural area of Virginia.  Their son Jimmi passed away in November of 2011 after an extended illness: thus, the addition of his name to the scholarship. Dr. Palmieri and his deceased wife adopted Jimmi from Bangkok, Thailand, in 1977 when he was just 16 days old.
