A free science-based STEM-H Camp at VCOM-Virginia the weeks of June 23 and July 7, 2024.
The SEE Camp is designed to promote science and healthcare professions to high school students who have a minimum GPA of 3.5 from Southwest Virginia High schools.* There is no charge for housing, food,
and activities. Check-in is at 6 pm on the evening of June 23 and July 7 and the camp will end at noon on June 28 and July 12, 2024.
Led by VCOM faculty and medical students in a state-of-the-art cadaver lab and simulation center, participants will take part in:
- Clinical Experiences - Learn and practice suturing and surgical knot-typing with a surgeon
- Hands-On Simulations - Interactive learning that mimics real-life healthcare situations
- Biomedical Experiments - Participate in analyzing various “cultures” under a microscope in addition to learning the basics of epidemiology.
- Healthcare Professional Speakers - Meet healthcare career professionals, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, and research scientists.
- Small Group Research Project - Presented to VCOM faculty and parents on Friday of each week.
There is no charge for this program. Lunch will be provided Monday-Thursday. All meals, lodging, and activities are included.

Dress Code
Students will be expected to maintain proper attire. This will be strictly enforced. Many of the program’s activities will take place in the anatomy laboratory. Therefore, open-toed shoes, shorts, hats, low-cut, halter, spaghetti strap tops, mini-skirts, sleeveless shirts, and profanity on t-shirts, are not permitted. Cell phones are not allowed in the anatomy lab or Sim Center.
*Twenty-four high school students are allowed each week at the SEE Camp. Priority will be given to high school students who live in the following Southwest Virginia counties and cities: Alleghany, Bland, Botetourt, Buchanan, Carroll, Craig, Dickenson, Floyd, Giles, Grayson, Lee, Montgomery, Pulaski, Roanoke, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise, and Wythe and the cities of Bristol, Covington, Galax, Norton, Radford, Roanoke, and Salem on a first-come, first-serve basis. High school students outside this region who would like to attend will be placed on a wait list and chosen if space allows.
