Averett University and VCOM Collaborate for Innovative Program in Applied Healthcare Data Analytics

Dr. Tiffany M. Franks with Dixie Tooke-Rawlins

BLACKSBURG, Va. (Nov. 22, 2019) – Averett University, in collaboration with the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM), today announced the development of an exclusive Master of Science in applied healthcare data analytics program. Averett will begin offering the online program in January 2020.

Averett launched a master’s in applied data analytics in the fall 2018 term from which this additional program is based, but with a more specific focus on the complex data needs of healthcare organizations.

“Averett developed a strategic initiative to build innovative partnerships to expand opportunities for students and the marketplace, and we are thrilled to collaborate with VCOM on this exciting new program,” said Averett President Dr. Tiffany M. Franks. “We believe this program will prove relevant for the healthcare industry and make graduates more marketable to hospitals and other healthcare organizations. We know that VCOM has expertise in creating specialized programs, research and cutting-edge techniques that have helped shape the overall healthcare industry, and coupled with the solid foundation of our existing applied data analytics program, we are confident that this collaboration will make for a competitive program.”

“Advancing scientific knowledge through research is part of our mission and strategic goals at VCOM.  Priorities here focus on population-based research, primary care delivery and efficacy of care ─ all elements that are integral to applied healthcare data analytics. The value of this data in evaluating the outcomes and delivery of services to patients is vital in the future of providing high-quality, compassionate and affordable care,” said VCOM President Dr. Dixie Tooke-Rawlins.

Averett’s applied healthcare data analytics program will help prepare students to use data and analytics to solve major problems facing the healthcare industry, creating more stable workplaces for both hospital personnel and patients. Designed for working professionals, the flexible online format will teach students how to organize and manage medical information as an essential part of the efficiency and delivery of quality healthcare.

“Graduates with this degree will possess imperative business fundamentals, industry context and advanced data analytics to not only comprehend data, but to inform better decision-making within health organizations,” said Dr. Alice M. Obenchain-Leeson, program director and professor at Averett.

“The Master’s program that Averett University and VCOM are developing will help its program graduates make an immediate impact within their healthcare organization. Data analytics is positioned to play a major role in the future of patient care and the healthcare industry,” said John G. Rocovich Jr., chairman, and treasurer of the VCOM Board of Directors.

This program can be completed in as little as two years. For more information or to apply now, visit http://info.averett.edu/ms-healthcare-data-analytics.
