On Saturday, November 4, the VCOM-Carolinas American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians (ACOP) student organization held their annual Pediatric Wellness Fair. The event was made possible through the support of numerous other VCOM-Carolinas student organizations, faculty, staff, student volunteers, or our amazing community partners including SafeKids' Safety Town, Spartanburg Regional's Helicopter, police officers, Spartanburg library, Big Brother Big Sisters, and the local fire department and their firetruck! The Pediatric Wellness Fair promoted the osteopathic values that health is an interplay of mind, body, and spirit.
The event featured many interactive booths and resources for the children, caretakers and families that attended. Some of the most popular stations for children were the brain game booth, healthy eating education, hand washing, safety town and the haunted house. For the adults, there were several dentists, blood pressure checks, cancer screenings and safety education among many other useful resources. Community partners and VCOM organizations made sure to give parents and caretakers ways to access further resources in the local community, nationally and online. The Pediatric Wellness Fair tied health education, health promotion, and the osteopathic mission into one fun-filled afternoon.
