5th Annual VCOM Biomedical Research Retreat

VCOM’s fifth annual research retreat was held December 7th through 8th at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. The focus of this event was to strengthen and refine research ideas and proposal development skills. Over 90 faculty from our three campuses attended this event. These retreats are ideal environments for faculty to learn about and contribute to the ever-expanding scientific environment at VCOM.

A highlight of this retreat was the half-day Grant Training Center workshop: an intensive session focused on scientific writing concepts and proposal improvement with attention on creating a compelling specific aims page. Attendees were able to explore the NIH and which funding mechanism is best for them, and attendees discussed proposal writing and development with a concentration on research strategy.

An unfortunate early winter snowstorm shortened the retreat; however, the Research Department is working with the Center for Institutional, Faculty, and Student Success to hold multiple Faculty Development sessions to cover those talks that were canceled due to the weather.
