Diversity

VCOM recognizes, values, and affirms that diversity contributes richness to the college and enhances the quality of education. Students, faculty, staff, and administrators are valued for their diversity. VCOM is committed to providing an academic and employment environment in which students and employees are treated with courtesy, respect, and dignity. It is the policy of VCOM that no student or employee shall be excluded from participating in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination in any program sponsored by VCOM.

VCOM’s commitment to the principles of non-discrimination includes and extends far beyond the federally protected classes of age, gender, sex, race, color, creed, national origin, religion, ancestry, marital status, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, or status as a protected veteran. VCOM has a commitment to nondiscrimination against any individual or group of individuals. VCOM has zero tolerance to inappropriate behavior exhibited as an act of discrimination.

VCOM recognizes the lack of medical care to minority populations and actively recruits minority students who are underrepresented in health care. The population of the United States is becoming increasingly diverse and VCOM seeks a student body that will meet the needs of a diverse society.

Minority Access Award

VCOM received national recognition as an institutional role model for minority access four years in a row and three primary administrators have been recognized for national mentorship. Minority Access, Inc. (MAI) recognized VCOM as the Institutional National Role Model, an honor awarded to educational institutions at the forefront in diversifying campuses and improving recruitment, retention and enhancement of minorities. The organization also honored Dr. Dixie Tooke-Rawlins, Dr. Dean Sutphin, and Mr. Bill King over the past three years with the National Role Model Award for Enhancing Diversity to Overcome Disparities in Health and Education.
