VCOM-Carolinas has named Bidyut Mohanty, PhD, its 2025 Researcher of the Year, recognizing a year of strong momentum in research, collaboration, and student mentorship.
The award highlights faculty who consistently produce meaningful scholarship while building opportunities for students to get involved in research. Dr. Mohanty has done both at a high level.
His work focuses on the molecular mechanisms behind disease, including studies on nucleic acid structures and their role in neurological disorders and cancer. Over the past year, he contributed to multiple funded projects and publications, helping expand VCOM-Carolinas’ growing research footprint.
Just as important is his role in mentoring students. Dr. Mohanty regularly brings medical students into the research process, giving them hands-on experience and helping them build a foundation in scientific inquiry early in their training.
Through a combination of productivity, collaboration, and mentorship, Dr. Mohanty continues to strengthen the research culture at VCOM-Carolinas.
