VCOM-Virginia’s Class of 2022 receive their whitecoats

On Sunday, October 21, 2018, the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) – Virginia campus held a Whitecoat Ceremony to honor the Class of 2022. The ceremony was held in Burruss Hall on Virginia Tech’s campus.

VCOM faculty, family members, guests of the Class of 2022, and members of the community attended the ceremony as 184 medical students were cloaked with their first white coats. VCOM students are formally cloaked in whitecoats during the October ceremony, shortly after completing the first block of medical education on campus. The ceremony is a rite of passage, marking each medical student’s progress toward his or her career as a physician. This tradition has been adopted by over 100 medical schools worldwide to

In addition to their White Coats, each student received the "Humanism in Medicine" pin, donated by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, and a stethoscope from the Virginia Osteopathic Medical Association. During the ceremony, the students were led in the osteopathic oath by the osteopathic physicians in attendance.

Afterward, everyone was invited back to VCOM’s campus for a dessert reception for an afternoon of celebration.
