The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine subscribes to two excellent faculty development resources, 20-Minute Mentor Commons and The Teaching Professor. These resources address critical issues facing faculty and administrators today and feature leading educators and consultants who deliver thought-provoking, content-rich presentations.
20-Minute Mentor Commons
20 Minute Mentor Commons are video-based programs designed to answer a specific question related to teaching and learning. They deliver actionable insights in highly focused 20-minute presentations designed to fit busy schedules. Faculty enjoy instant access to current and archived Magna 20 Minute Mentor programs which cover a broad range of faculty development topics.
The Teaching Professor
The Teaching Professor is a highly informative newsletter with a singular purpose: to provide ideas and insight to educators who are passionate about teaching. A source of cutting-edge information and inspiration for more than 10,000 educators at universities and colleges worldwide.

MedEdPORTAL, a resource offered by The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), offers teaching materials, assessment tools, and faculty development resources for educators and administrators in the health care professions. It is available for free to the general public around the globe and anyone can access and download the published resources.
Teaching Physician Faculty Development
In keeping with VCOM’s commitment to provide high quality educational resources and faculty development, we are proud to provide our clinical faculty full access to “Teaching Physician” presented by the Society for Teachers of Family Medicine. Teaching Physician is a comprehensive web-based resource presented by the Society for Teachers of Family Medicine that provides physician preceptors with valuable information and resources related to the precepting of medical students and residents.
Physician preceptors, regardless of their specialty, will find the material to be an invaluable tool for improving their precepting experience and their efficiency and effectiveness as a medical educator.
Utilizing a variety of formats, including video clips, frequently asked questions and links to full text journal articles on medical education and clinical precepting, the Teaching Physician website provides clinical preceptors a comprehensive resource for ongoing faculty development.
Appointed VCOM clinical faculty have unlimited access to all resources on the Teaching Physician website and will receive an email from Teaching Physician with their login and password information.

International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) Webcast Audio Seminars
The International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) offers webcast audio seminars to both members and non-members at a small cost. Webcasts offer an interactive means of sharing information relevant to medical science education and medical science educators. The benefit of IAMSE Webcast Audio Seminars is that they are presented live, in real time, and are totally interactive, with experts in the subject presenting and leading the discussions. Also, because there is no need to leave your office, it is both efficient and relatively inexpensive.
What is an IAMSE Webcast Audio Seminar?
Essentially a 1-hour telephone conference call supplemented by webcast PowerPoint slides, an IAMSE Webcast Audio Seminar is a method of exchanging vital information on timely topics in medical education. The slant of each is geared toward our membership who have responsibility for teaching the basic sciences to those in medical training. These basic sciences encompass all subjects that have arisen from the seven traditional disciplines of: Anatomy, Behavioral Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology, Pathology, Pharmacology and Physiology. Biomedical faculty should contact the Associate Dean for Biomedical Affairs to arrange IAMSE conferences.
As with other IAMSE events, all medical professionals are welcome to participate and non-members are admitted on a space-available basis. Currently, the cost is $20 for IAMSE Members/$40 for Non Members. Institutional Groups may register for $500 for the entire series, or $100 per session.
