HeartCode® ACLS is available at any time. Since HeartCode® ACLS is hosted online, technology offers participants 24/7 access to Part 1 course content. Parts 2 and 3 (skills testing) is only offered by scheduling an appointment with Simulation Center Faculty/Staff.
ACLS Course Content
HeartCode® ACLS is an approved AHA online course and contains the 2010 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC, and ACLS core drugs. Rest assured, the online HeartCode® ACLS course and skills check provides medical professionals the certification they require and is accepted by all facilities in the United States. Most hospital systems only recognize AHA certifications and this is exactly what you will receive; an AHA ACLS Provider Certification.
Course Format and Learning Materials
All study material is provided to you when you complete registration for HeartCode® ACLS. This eLearning course provides self-assessments to test knowledge of rhythm recognition and pharmacology, team dynamics, and ten patient care cases allowing the participant to treat various cardiac and stroke emergencies. At any time during or before beginning the ACLS online course, an electronic, read-only version of the student provider manual can be accessed, reviewed, and studied. Following the completion of the patient cases, a multiple choice exam is required to complete the cognitive assessment (Part 1). Participants are allowed unlimited attempts to successfully manage patient cases and also to pass the exam. eLearning content is available to all registered users for 2 years.
Obtaining ACLS Certification
Skills testing is required to obtain the AHA ACLS Provider Certification. Skills testing comprises an assessment at the Simulation Center in which participants will be evaluated on a Voice-Assist Manikin (VAM). The VAM assesses ventilation skills utilizing a bag-valve-mask (part 2) and compressions and ventilations (CPR) skills (part 3). Again, participants are provided unlimited attempts to successfully perform the skills testing. Note: Skills testing must be completed within 60 days of completing the eLearning portion of the course.
ACLS Provider Card Issuance
AHA Provider certification cards are issued by Laerdal Medical Corporation. You will receive your ACLS card in the mail approximately 2-4 weeks following the course. If you need to provide documentation immediately, participants have the option to print certificates of completion to provide verification to their healthcare agency.
