The Summer Enrichment Experience (SEE) program is designed to promote science and medicine to area high school students. In so doing, we hope not only to encourage these students to pursue careers in science and medicine, but also to gain an appreciation of behaviors that are fundamental to healthy lifestyles.

We are seeking students who are under-represented in healthcare fields, and who have maintained at least an average GPA of 2.75, to participate in the SEE program.

SEE activities, which are under the direction of faculty and medical students, include the following (please allow for some yearly variation in programming):

  • Interactive lectures
  • “Anatomy Jeopardy”
  • Lab activities in our state-of-the-art anatomy lab
  • Cadaver prosections
  • Computer programs
  • On-line research and tutorials

If selected to participate in the program, VCOM will arrange and pay for 5 nights of lodging for students living more than 45 minutes from Blacksburg at the local Comfort Inn. Out of town students should arrive at the hotel Sunday evening and check out Friday morning. Breakfast will be provided Monday – Friday and lunch will be provided Monday - Thursday. Evening entertainment such as movie, putt-putt golf, bowling, skating will be provided. Participants are expected to bring additional spending money for evening meals and souvenirs.
